"Show me somebody who is always smiling, always cheerful, always optimistic, and I will show you somebody who hasn't the faintest idea what the heck is really going on" —Mike Royko
Week of November 27: You've probably read this week's main post by now and seen that I thought the ComMotion thing was cool. And I do. But as far as I'm concerned, interpretive dance is one of those things that is frufy for the sake of being frufy (think wine enthusiasts. Oh, yes, it has distinct undertones of acacia bark and tastes of ancient biterrois vines. Simply delightful. Dude, this came from the discount shelf at Total Wine). I feel like there is a better way to influence the community than to hope that someone watching the performance takes it upon themselves to do something. Yes, the periodical cynicism is kinda harsh this week. Oh, well.
Week 2: I'm not sure if the class is about designing a room/school or designing this class. Yes, we are using empathy to find what people's "needs" are and what they should want given those "needs" but I don't know that the end result will be universally applicable and representative of the work that we've done. We would almost need a separate solution for every room, and even there is no guarantee that the the educator will approve of the new setup, even if it does meet their needs.
